Welcome to Maidah ("we," "our," or "us"). Maidah is a Halal food finder and community application dedicated to helping users discover Halal dining options and mosques. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our app.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our mobile application (the "App"). Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the application.

2. Collection of Your Information

We collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the App includes:

A. Location Data (Precise)

  • What we collect: We collect your precise location data.
  • Why we collect it: To display your current position on the map, provide directions to restaurants/mosques, and sort search results by "nearest" to you.
  • When we collect it: Precise location data is collected only when the App is in use (in the foreground). We do not track your location when the App is closed or in the background.

B. Personal Data

  • Email Address: Collected during the account creation process (via Apple Sign In or other methods) to authenticate your user account and manage your profile.
  • Name: Collected for your user profile display (optional).
  • Mosque Preference: You may optionally choose to add your local mosque to your profile.

C. User-Generated Content (UGC)

  • Reviews & Ratings: If you post public reviews or ratings for restaurants, this information is visible to other users of the App.
  • Photos: You may upload photos of food or places. We access your device's Camera or Photo Library only with your explicit permission to facilitate these uploads.

D. Device Information

  • Technical Logs: We automatically collect certain information about your device, including your device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
  • Purpose: This data is used solely for crash reporting, debugging, and improving App performance.

3. Use of Your Information

Having accurate information about you permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we use information collected about you via the App to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Compile anonymous statistical data and analysis for use internally.
  • Enable user-to-user communications (via public reviews).
  • Generate a personal profile about you to make future visits to the App more personalized.
  • Increase the efficiency and operation of the App.
  • Monitor and analyze usage and trends to improve your experience with the App.
  • Notify you of updates to the App.
  • Resolve disputes and troubleshoot problems.

4. Disclosure of Your Information / Third-Party Processors

We share information with third parties that perform services for us or on our behalf. These third-party services include:

  • Supabase: Used for our backend database, data storage, and user authentication management.
  • Mapbox: Used to display maps and provide address search functionality. Mapbox may collect anonymous usage statistics to improve their services.
  • Apple Sign In: Used for secure authentication on iOS devices.
  • Expo (EAS): Used to deliver "Over-the-Air" generic updates to the App (e.g., bug fixes) securely.

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties for marketing purposes.

5. User Rights & Data Control

You have control over your data:

  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data directly within the App. Navigate to Settings > Danger Zone and select the delete account option. This action is permanent.
  • Permission Revocation: You can revoke the App's access to your Location or Camera at any time by adjusting the settings on your mobile device.

6. Security of Your Information

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.
